Wine is a critical element of entertaining and culinary experiences, and modern wine cellars help make bottle collections part of engaging, artistic focal points in restaurants and homes throughout the world. This course focuses on the evolution of the wine cellar, from refrigeration to modern materials and display systems. It defines passive and active (cooled) storage, and identifies key considerations when building a wine cellar.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Identify the elements that affect wine storage and explain their influence on the wine aging process.
- Define passive cellar and summarize its design and construction considerations.
- Define active (cooled) cellar and summarize its design and construction considerations and cooling system options.
- Specify suitable materials for wine storage and select the appropriate racking options for the intended design.
- Use case studies to demonstrate the return on investment (ROI) of wine display systems.
