Vinyl plays a major role in the design and construction of modern buildings, and it contributes to sustainability, wellness, and resilience of people and their communities. This course demonstrates the importance of achieving client performance goals using thoughtful, multi-attribute material selection criteria.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Summarize how vinyl is made and why it is the most widely-used plastic in building construction.
• Discuss vinyl’s role in sustainable design using environmental, economic, social, and life cycle assessment criteria.
• Examine principles of disclosure and optimization, material selection criteria and the difference between hazard, exposure and risk.
• Explain why many factors affect human health and how focusing on measurable impacts of materials is the best way to achieve occupant wellness.
• Explore the vinyl industry’s history of continuous improvement.
