Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Recall several goals of the LEED program and describe the optimal sequence of design decisions that lead to the creation of a high performance, sustainable home.
Explain the Solar Decathlon program, its purpose and goals.
List a minimum of ten innovative technologies and/or systems that can be incorporated into a high performance home.
Discuss how photovoltaics and other renewable energy technologies can be used to enhance the performance of a well-designed, sustainable home.

Name: Andrea L. Hutchins, AIA, AKBD
Title: Project Manager, Design + Development Group, Whirlpool Corporation
Background: Andrea Hutchins is a Project Manager in the Design + Development Group of Whirlpool Corporation. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Detroit Mercy, is a Member of the American Institute of Architects, and a NKBA Associate Kitchen + Bath Designer (AKBD).
Andrea’s professional experience includes the architecture firms of Brooks Architectural, Inc., Mamola Associates Architects, P.C., Hobbs + Black Architects, and The Troyer Group. Andrea joined Whirlpool Corporation in 2008, where she specializes in partnering with the design and building industry through the creation of educational, informational, and experiential resources for design professionals. She speaks and teaches on behalf of the Whirlpool Corporation brands including: Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Maytag, and Gladiator GarageWorks about design and technology trends that impact residential architecture.
Active in both the professional community and her local community, Andrea is a member of the Southwest Michigan chapter of the AIA. Andrea volunteers with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
