Provides an overview of the history of solid surface as a decorative material with a discussion on product characteristics and attributes, and a comparison of sustainability factors of three hard surface materials and their environmental impact.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the origins of solid surface as a decorative material and the valuable attributes this material provides the market place.
  • Describe the relationship between the consumption of several hard surfacing materials and their environmental impact.
  • Explain the specific chemical hazards associated with the composition and use of granite, engineered quartz, and solid surface.
  • Review the material challenges presented by our consumer based lifestyle and reconcile that lifestyle with creating more sustainable value.
