The Wave of the Future: Sustainable Hand Dryer Solutions

Good restroom design includes regard for user experience, environmental impact, good hygiene, and cost over time─hand-drying fixtures are a necessary element of this design process. In this course, we review how new technologies can address the hygiene, dry speed, sound level, and accessibility concerns of a restroom project. We also discuss why it is vital to specify hand dryers with optimum energy and cost efficiency.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Identify different types of hand dryers and their distinctive features to determine which environment each one is best suited for to provide hygienic products for building occupants.
• Compare and contrast hand dryer sanitary features, sustainability, and positive environmental impacts to other products, including their paper towel counterparts.
• Explain how to determine which hand dryers are needed for each restroom and how to ensure compliance with ADA guidelines so that all people are able to use hand dryers comfortably and effectively.
• Analyze applications and explain how high-speed hand dryers may help a building earn LEED® points and contribute to green building principles to best protect the welfare of people and the environment.
