Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Dfine the hazards, components, and progression of fire.
Describe the performance features of intumescent paint and fire retardant coatings, and explain how they work to: prevent the chemical chain reaction necessary for fire ignition; reduce flame spread and smoke development; and increase occupant and building safety.
Utilize spray-applied fire and mold protection technology to enhance life safety and property protection measures within the built environment.
Discuss intumescent paint and fire retardant coatings in terms of their compliance with green building program standards and certification requirements.
List and identify intumescent paint and fire retardant coating products available in today's market, and make clear distinctions regarding each product's attributes and specific project applicability.

Title: President, Traw Associates Consulting, No-Burn, Inc.
Background: Jon S. Traw, currently President of Traw Associates Consulting, has worked for a number of years in the building and safety community. He is currently registered as a Civil and Fire Protection Engineer in the state of California, and is former President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Conference of Building Officials – ICBO – a position held from 1993 – 2002. Jon graduated from the University of Arizona and began his professional career as a Structural Engineer with the Douglas Aircraft Company. He has held several responsible and progressive roles during his corporate tenure ranging from Senior Staff Engineer, to Director of Education, to Vice President, Codes/Engineering with the ICBO. Over the years, Jon has supported many professional memberships by lending his technical, advisory and organizational expertise. Of note, Jon is a past member of the Board of Directors of ASTM International. Jon’s presentation background and experience is also quite extensive; he has served as lecturer, keynote speaker, and workshop facilitator to many professional audiences throughout his impressive career.
