Introduction to Firestopping

Each year in the U.S. there are millions of fires, resulting in thousands of deaths, tens of thousands of injuries, and billions of dollars in property loss. This course examines firestop systems and their role in saving lives and property, with discussions on testing, technologies, and products that help prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Discuss the importance of firestopping, how it works, and where firestop systems are used.
• Describe the testing requirements for firestop systems.
• Identify the correct system detail for a firestop application based on project parameters.
• Describe the four firestopping technologies, and identify the types of products appropriate for each technology.
