This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.
Provides an overview of how to manage moisture and reduce microbial risk in multifamily housing and the benefits of using supplemental dehumidifiers specifically design-engineered for apartments or multifamily dwellings.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Discuss the adverse health effects related to exposure to mold or other agents in damp interior spaces.
- Describe the negative effects of moisture accumulation to the structural integrity of a building and construction materials.
- Explain how ventilation affects indoor air quality and the differences in multifamily housing ventilation requirements relative to the application of ASHRAE 62.2.
- Identify architectural features and HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) factors that have been observed to reduce or increase the risks of moisture, and mold and microbial growth in multifamily housing.
- Discuss how the daily activities of building occupants impact the risk of excessive moisture accumulation.
- Summarize the ASHRAE concept of complex causation—how moisture-related problems in buildings are usually the result of a series of events rather than a single cause.
