    Vinyl plays a major role in the design and construction of modern buildings, and it contributes to sustainability, wellness, and resilience of people and their communities. This course demonstrates the importance of achieving client performance goals using thoughtful, multi-attribute material selection criteria.
                        
        Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
    
        - Summarize how vinyl is made and why it is the most widely-used plastic in building construction.
         - Discuss vinyl’s role in sustainable design using environmental, economic, social, and life cycle assessment criteria.
         - Examine principles of disclosure and optimization, material selection criteria and the difference between hazard, exposure and risk.
         - Explain why many factors affect human health and how focusing on measurable impacts of materials is the best way to achieve occupant wellness.
         - Explore the vinyl industry’s history of continuous improvement.

        Name: Terry Murphy, LEED AP BD C
        Title: Continuing Education Program Manager, VINYL In DESIGN®
        Background: Terry has worked in the interior design field for over 30 years and is a LEED® accredited professional. Her experience has ranged from interior design and project management, teaching, public speaking, and writing. In an effort to help architects and designers learn more about building materials, Terry has been presenting continuing education classes for the last fifteen years. She taught several different classes for DuPont on nylon technology, carpet specification, color trends, and reclamation. Terry is now the Continuing Education Program Manager for The Vinyl Institute, Inc. She teaches AIA and IDCEC registered classes on vinyl as a building material.
