Energy-Efficient Envelope Design Using Integrally-Insulated Concrete Tilt-Up Panels (Removed)

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

High performance buildings require envelopes with thermal, air and vapor layers that are typically installed individually and by separate contractors, adding to the complexity of their construction. Integrally insulated concrete tilt-up panels provide multiple building envelope layers in one element. In this course we’ll look at these insulated concrete walls, the types, their components, their thermal and moisture resistant properties and where they are used.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe the types of integrally insulated concrete tilt-up panels, their components and their possible contributions to sustainability.
  • Explain the difference between material and performance R-value of an insulated concrete tilt-up panel.
  • List three options for connector materials and their impact on energy efficiency.
  • Relate the thermal and moisture resistance properties of concrete tilt-up panels and the materials that contribute to these properties.
  • Relate how designers have incorporated sustainable features using sandwich panels into example projects.
