Advances in Water-Source VRF Technology: A New Era of Efficiency

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

Energy efficiency and better control of indoor air quality and comfort are key tenets of the sustainability movement. Building owners and occupants are demanding HVAC systems that meet these needs. This course discusses Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) technology, an HVAC system that improves efficiency and environmental control. We will look at how it works, system types and performance characteristics as well as several application examples.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe how Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) technology is able to provide individualized control and energy efficient performance.
  • Describe three benefits of a two-pipe VRF system over a three-pipe VRF system.
  • Compare water-source to air-source VRF technology with regards to operational and energy efficiency.
  • Recall the relationship of geothermal systems and building automation systems to water-source VRF technology.
  • Illustrate real-life application examples where water-source VRF technology has improved the efficiency of a building.
