Given that humans instinctively react to color, it is no wonder that color plays an integral part of the overall design aesthetic. Presented here is an overview of color theory, including the color wheel and color properties and harmonies. The course discusses how lighting influences color and provides some guidelines for selecting the appropriate paint colors for a project.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe the color wheel and explain the relationships between colors based on their positions on the wheel.
  • Define the three main properties of color and use the color wheel to create several color harmonies.
  • Discuss visual temperature and recall how lighting can change the perception of color.
  • Use knowledge of the color wheel and guidelines for paint selection to specify the best color palette for a project.
