Kiln-Fired Glass: Function and Artistry in the Built Environment

Kiln-fired glass is a fine art form with many architectural and interior design applications. This course explains how kiln-fired glass is produced, what the range of applications is, and how installations can meet architectural glass performance and safety requirements.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Identify how kiln-fired glass can be used as a building material.
  • Describe how kiln-fired glass is made by thermo-forming architectural glass.
  • List interior/exterior applications of kiln-fired glass, and identify why kiln-fired glass is an appropriate choice.
  • Describe how kiln-fired glass can meet requirements for safety and performance glazing.
  • Describe processes for coloring kiln-fired glass.
  • Identify suitable mounting systems for kiln-fired glass.
