Don’t Be on the Fence about Coatings: Selection Matters
Aesthetics, durability, and environmental performance are key considerations for architectural metal finishes. This course will help you identify long-lasting and sustainable aluminum extrusion coatings and includes discussions on the aluminum extrusion process; a comparison of powder and liquid coatings; an overview of the chrome and the chrome-free pretreatment processes; and the performance objectives of AAMA testing standards.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Describe the types of powder coats and their relative performance characteristics including corrosion protection, flexibility, and UV resistance.
- List the ASTM testing standards for organic coatings on aluminum that ensure durability, color retention, and hardness, leading to a long-lasting coating.
- Describe the performance characteristics of extruded aluminum and the environmental impact of its recycled content.
- Compare powder coating to liquid coatings in terms of air quality, waste reduction, durability, and energy efficiency.
- Perform pretreatment of aluminum surfaces that ensures low environmental impact and high durability.
