Lightweight, impact resistant, and easily molded, polycarbonate's durability and versatility allow it to turn innovative, imaginative architectural designs into a cost-effective reality. This course outlines polycarbonate's effectiveness in bringing natural light into enclosed spaces, its role in improving the mental well-being of building occupants, its advantages over other panel/sheet materials, and its aesthetic virtues.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Evaluate the benefits and advantages of polycarbonate construction applications compared to other translucent building materials in relation to energy efficiency, impact resistance, and daylight transmission.
- List key solar performance, durability, thermal insulation, and acoustic performance data for polycarbonate rooftop systems.
- Recall the performance qualities of solid panel, multiwall, and corrugated polycarbonate and specify the appropriate product to meet a project's strength, aesthetic, solar, and thermal performance requirements.
- Describe how polycarbonate sheet can contribute to achieving LEED® credits.
