LED Retrofit Solutions for Interiors and Exteriors
This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.
LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are safe, high-performing light sources that outperform other illumination technologies in a broadening portfolio of applications. Retrofitting existing lighting with LEDs is a cost-effective way to reduce building energy use and improve the quality of the lighting system. This course explores the benefits of an LED retrofit to the building owner and the occupants, identifies different retrofit strategies, and explains how to plan an upgrade to energy-efficient lighting.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Identify the fundamental characteristics of LED lighting systems to illustrate how they outperform other artificial light sources in terms of energy efficiency, longevity, and quality of light.
- Discuss how an LED retrofit presents opportunities to improve lighting performance, functionality, and reliability and optimize occupant comfort levels.
- Explain how an LED retrofit can be an integral part of a facility-wide program to improve the safety and security of a building.
- Compare different lighting retrofit strategies and summarize the variables that affect the retrofit process.
- Discuss why it is important to set lighting retrofit goals to achieve desired outcomes for saving money and energy, improving occupant comfort, and minimizing lighting maintenance requirements.
