Aluminum drywall trim is a high-quality, easy-to-install material that can elevate drywall from a simple wall and ceiling treatment to the paramount feature of a sleek, modern design aesthetic. Provided here is a synopsis of the performance attributes and sustainability features of aluminum trim. This includes the types of trim available, installation details, and design potential, as well as the manufacturing, fabrication, finishing, and specification of aluminum trims.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Recall the performance attributes of aluminum drywall trims in relation to strength, fabrication, durability, flexibility, and sustainability.
  • Discuss the types of aluminum trims and their installation considerations, including layout, framing, cutting, fastening, finishing flanges, general rules of thumb, and field painting.
  • Explain the aluminum extrusion process and the fabrication processes for use in a gypsum wall, including hole punching, bending, cutting, and welding, and recall the variety of factory finishes available.
  • Utilize design goals and proper product names and codes to specify the appropriate trim and finish for the project.
