Modular Metal Panel Systems
This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.
Modular metal panel (MMP) wall systems allow for an array of different exterior and interior building designs due to their wide range of panel sizes, planes, and layout configurations. This course covers the attributes of MMPs, including the available substrates, their fabrication and ease of installation, and their ability to deliver a simple, constructible concealed-fastener rainscreen system.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Discuss the performance fundamentals of rainscreen wall design and explain the challenges in relation to energy efficiency, installation, and long-term performance.
- Define MMPs in terms of their material, finish, and fabrication and compare their attributes to traditional products used in exterior wall systems to demonstrate why they provide a sustainable rainscreen solution.
- Explain how single-component insulated composite backup panels can be combined with MMPs to form a complete building envelope, contributing to thermal efficiency and moisture protection.
- Explore the design requirements and considerations of an MMP installation and recognize the importance of detailing wall transition points to ensure continuity and maintain the thermal efficiency of the rainscreen system.
