Rethinking Vertical Accessibility

The variety of wheelchair lifts on the market can present a challenge to specifiers. Not only is there a wide range of design features, but also some lifts may not meet all ADA requirements for a given application. This course covers the features and the code and regulatory requirements of vertical wheelchair lifts, and the benefits of specifying a vertical wheelchair lift solution to both the user and the facility owner.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • List and explain the key features of a vertical wheelchair lift from the perspective of both the user and the facility owner/facility manager.
  • Describe the components and benefits of a vertical wheelchair lift, including how it provides a comfortable, dignified means of accessibility for a wide variety of mobility impairments.
  • Summarize the code and regulatory requirements regarding vertical wheelchair lifts.
  • Contrast the safety features/code compliance of various lift options and identify typical locations requiring vertical accessibility.
