Corrosion is a significant concern for interior and exterior metal doors and frames, primarily due to the constant exposure to environmental factors like moisture, humidity, salts, and chemicals. Corrosion not only affects the aesthetics of these structures but also compromises their structural integrity and performance. This presentation reviews the causes, types, impacts, and treatments of corrosion in metal doors and frames. It examines how preventive measures related to materials and door design and construction inhibit corrosion, contributing to a durable, safe, and functional entryway and exit.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Recall five common types of corrosion and explain how they occur, their characteristics, and their potential impact on the structural integrity and functionality of metal doors and frames and occupant safety and well-being.
  • Identify corrosion catalysts and the specific vulnerabilities of materials used in door fabrication.
  • Discuss how passivation, galvanization, anodization, painting, and door design and fabrication are utilized to increase corrosion resistance and mitigate building and occupant safety and security risks.
  • Specify the appropriate doors and frames and preventive measures for corrosive applications to ensure long-term integrity, durability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered online, at your own pace.
