Design Considerations for Safe Automated Commercial and Industrial Overhead Door Environments

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

Motorized doors in industrial and warehousing environments provide convenience, save time, and increase productivity but also carry the risk of entrapment. This course explains the need for entrapment protection devices on motorized commercial and industrial doors and discusses how to specify the appropriate safety products and monitoring functions to meet code requirements. It also stresses the importance of designing safety features into specifications to minimize the risk factors for specific building projects.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Recognize the potential hazards of automated commercial and industrial motorized door environments.
  • Assess postoccupancy risk factors in a wide variety of door environments and gain knowledge about how to minimize damage and injury for clients within their specific building projects.
  • Examine key door industry standards and codes pertaining to motorized doors.
  • Specify safety devices based upon required level of protection for a specific building’s door environment and learn about other safety device options for an elevated level of convenience and protection.
