As natural gas lines are being phased out for new development and for those who want to move away from burning fossil fuels, it’s becoming critical for homeowners, builders, specifiers, and architects to understand the flexible application of electric heating solutions. Electric heat is a convenient way to reduce energy costs and provide reliable heating options for commercial and residential heating systems that increase occupant safety, comfort, and well-being. This course examines multiple electric heating options to meet consumer needs and provides solutions to common heating concerns.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe how electric heating systems can contribute to building decarbonization, reducing the need for burning fossil fuels.
  • Discuss how electric heat is safe for occupants as there are no risks associated with other heating systems, such as carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, or explosions, and many electric heaters have built-in shut-off mechanisms in case the vents were to become blocked.
  • Explain the difference between central and zonal heating and describe how zonal heating reduces energy use while increasing occupant well-being.
  • Identify common heating performance concerns and provide solutions that improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

Approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes. Delivered online, at your own pace.
