Polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) wallcoverings are used in commercial interiors for their durability and long‑term performance in demanding environments. This course examines how PVF functions in high‑traffic settings, including hospitality, healthcare, retail, restaurants, and multifamily applications, where surface resilience is a key consideration. The course also evaluates wallcoverings designed to resist wear and microbial growth, supporting hygienic conditions and consistent design performance in demanding applications, and possible contributions toward LEED® v5 Building Design and Construction and Interior Design and Construction rating systems and the WELL Building Standard™ v2.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe the physical properties of polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) wallcoverings and how their durability and antimicrobial qualities contribute to the cleanability and hygiene of high-touch spaces.
  • Discuss the chemical composition and performance characteristics of low-VOC PVF wallcoverings and their impact on indoor air quality, occupant health, and sustainable design.
  • Recall the building codes, industry standards, testing methods, and certification protocols relevant to PVF wallcoverings, including those related to fire safety, infection control, and occupant wellness.
  • Specify wallcoverings that balance aesthetics, maintenance needs, operational efficiency, and long‑term performance in commercial interiors.
