High-Performance Composite Door Systems for Energy-Efficient Buildings

This course examines the role of high‑performance fiberglass composite door systems in improving building envelope performance, meeting evolving energy codes, and supporting sustainable design goals, including potential contributions toward LEED® v5 Building Design and Construction rating system credits. Participants will explore current door system components, relevant energy standards, and how properly specified complete door systems contribute to occupant safety and comfort, durability, long‑term building performance, and improved property value.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Identify key performance limitations of traditional door materials as compared to modern fiberglass composite door systems.
  • Discuss how high-performance door systems contribute to energy-efficiency, air sealing, and overall improved building envelope performance as required by LEED v5 BD+C prerequisites and credits.
  • Explain how applicable energy codes, standards, and rating systems, including the International Energy Conservation Code®, ENERGY STAR®, and NFRC, inform door system selection and specification.
  • Apply best practices for specifying complete fiberglass door systems that support sustainable design goals and green building certification requirements, such as those in LEED® v5.
