Sustainable Separation Solutions: Interceptor Design

This course discusses the design, sizing, and management of grease and oil interceptors, emphasizing performance optimization and environmental sustainability. Learners will review interceptor types, sizing methodologies, and code-compliant design while exploring advanced technologies for efficient maintenance and system monitoring.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Evaluate key design differences between gravity and hydromechanical interceptors and analyze how design, materials, and installation considerations impact long-term performance, life-cycle costs, and efficacy in removing oil, grease, and flammable waste from wastewater.
  • Describe potential harm to the environment from interceptor performance failure and how to mitigate these risks.
  • Recall applicable codes and performance standards that manufacturers must follow to ensure environmental protection and compliance with permit regulations.
  • Describe innovations in interceptor technologies that reduce the risk of environmental contamination and increase the efficiency of oil and grease removal from wastewater.
  • Apply current sizing methodologies to ensure accurate and code-compliant interceptor specification.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered online, at your own pace.
