Louvers are an essential part of every HVAC system, facilitating appropriate airflow and inhibiting unwanted penetration by water, snow, or debris through wall openings and into HVAC ductwork. However, they can have other purposes. Their simple design makes them a versatile addition and a unique style option to any project. This course presents the types, components, and applications of louvers, along with the primary specification considerations when selecting a louver solution.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the components and applications of various louver types designed to meet specific performance requirements, including acoustical, sunscreen, wind-driven rain, and hurricane.
  • Define the variety of available finishes of louvers and how louvers can be utilized as style and aesthetic enhancements for a project.
  • State the types and functions of louver accessories that are used to implement the louver’s function, facilitate its installation, or enhance its use.
  • Identify the testing standards and primary specification considerations related to louvers to facilitate the proper selection.
