The Role of Automated Window Coverings in LEED® v4.1 & WELL v2™ Certification

Green building rating system crosswalks are tools that identify where systems are equivalent or aligned, providing a streamlined approach that can help projects achieve dual certifications. This course provides an overview of the crosswalks related to automated window shades and daylight control in LEED® v4.1 Building Design and Construction (BD+C): New Construction and Core and Shell, LEED v4.1 Interior Design and Construction (ID+C): Commercial Interiors, and the WELL Building Standard™ version 2. Also discussed are trade-offs between project parameters and rating system requirements that designers and architects must consider.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss how daylighting strategies and automated shades can contribute toward meeting equivalent and aligned requirements in WELL v2 and the LEED v4.1 BD+C and ID+C rating systems.
  • Describe the equivalent and aligned requirements for materials and resources in WELL v2 and the LEED v4.1 BD+C and ID+C rating systems and how shade fabric, motors, and controls can contribute toward meeting them.
  • Identify trade-offs to consider when planning automated shade design and programming in order to balance project requirements and those of WELL v2 and the LEED v4.1 BD+C and ID+C rating systems.
  • Discuss design trends and the innovative and integrative design process related to automated window coverings that are reflected in WELL v2 and the LEED v4.1 BD+C and ID+C rating systems.
