Developing Practical Elements & Appropriate Details for Cavity Masonry Walls, Single Wythe Masonry Walls and Adhered Veneer Systems
Developing Practical Elements & Appropriate Details for Cavity Masonry Walls, Single Wythe Masonry Walls and Adhered Veneer Systems
There is more than one choice for a masonry wall system – and having the proper design details is crucial. By incorporating a few key elements and proper detailing, this will provide a resilient and enduring structure that will last the lifetime of the project. This program will discuss anchoring techniques for large veneers, crack control for both cavity wall and single wythe, and converse on specific graphic details that will help prevent moisture penetration for adhered veneer projects.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
Understand more about the options for using masonry units in various wall types such as cavity walls, single wythe walls, and adhered veneer walls. We will review how the masonry can in each case contribute to the structural and weather resistant performance criteria ensuring the occupants will have a sustainable and durable structure.
Better understand the empirical methods of using masonry reinforcement and control joints in each of the wall types listed above illustrating techniques which will reduce unsightly cracking and limit moisture intrusion making the walls not only more attractive, but resistant to harmful effects of moisture intrusion to the building’s interior environment.
Understand the specific components required to detail adhered masonry veneer wall systems correctly which when installed properly will not only keep the veneer safely and securely attached to the building envelope but will create a clear path for moisture to exit the wall system.
Understand masonry industry best practices of installing flashing, weeps, termination bars, and drip edges to create good design details that as installed will perform as intended.
