The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA®) is the only organization accredited by the American National ‎Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain builders hardware ‎standards with cycling, operational, strength, security, and finish test requirements. This course explores the performance standards and the certification program related to commercial architectural hardware.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Define the history, membership, and role of BHMA® in the continuous improvement of builders hardware and the security of buildings.
  • Discuss the performance standards for commercial architectural hardware that enhance public accessibility and safety.
  • Describe the certification program for builders hardware that ensures compliance with codes, standards, and life safety regulations.
  • State the BHMA® product category rules that help evaluate a product’s life cycle assessment to meet the building industry’s growing sustainability requirements.
