Catholic University's New School of Nursing Tour

Conway School of Nursing Catholic University walking tour given by HCG, PCI, RAMSA, and CUA with opening remarks by Catholic University's Facilities Management & Planning/University Architects. The tour will end with a Question and Answer session and opportunity to meet and network with fellow attendees. The tour will focus on the use of precast concrete on the project, pointing out the unique design opportunities and schedule advantages. The team will discuss the use of mock-ups to refine the color, joint pattern, and texture of the concrete and describe the benefits and challenges with utilizing precast concrete in a high performance, LEED & WELL building.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Understand the rationale behind selecting precast concrete for the Conway School of Nursing, including its design flexibility, construction efficiency, and alignment with project goals.
  • Explore the role of mock-ups in refining precast concrete elements, such as color, joint patterns, and texture, and how these contribute to the building’s aesthetic and performance.
  • Analyze the benefits and challenges of using precast concrete in a high-performance building designed to meet LEED and WELL certification standards.
  • Explain how the color and applied finishes of the precast concrete panels were achieved through mix design, joint patterning and stone application at precast plant.
