Balcony Waterproofing - The Most Overlooked Component
This presentation will focus on the overview of above-grade waterproofing, specifically covering balcony waterproofing systems, and the most overlooked component when assembling such systems. The course will also highlight the forces that create the need for waterproofing assemblies, and how those forces shape how we waterproof balconies.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
Overview of the conditions of leakage, the forces behind leakage, and how these forces cause water penetration to a building’s structure.
Understand and compare the three typical systems utilized in balcony waterproofing: (1) Sheet-Applied Systems, (2) Fluid-Applied Systems, and (3) Cementitious Systems.
Highlight the most overlooked component when assembling these balcony waterproofing systems, being the inclusion of a drainage layer, and highlight the two common types of drainage layers that can be utilized, being Extruded or Thermoformed Prefabricated Composite Drains.
Teach the audience the difference between an Extruded and Thermoformed Prefabricated Composite Drain and explain the critical nature of utilizing either of the two in balcony waterproofing systems, stressing their ease of inclusion in traditional sheet systems and how they drastically help to extend the life of the balcony and ensure proper performance over time for the waterproofing system as a whole.
