This course introduces pedestal-supported rooftop deck systems and the technical factors that influence their design and specification, including durability and fire, wind uplift, and seismic performance. It also examines how rooftop deck assemblies can support strategies recognized in LEED® v5 Building Design and Construction and Interior Design and Construction rating systems, the WELL Building Standard™ version 2, and the SITES® v2 Rating System.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Assess how rooftop deck assemblies comply with fire safety standards and relevant building code requirements that influence rooftop installations.
  • Evaluate design strategies that address wind uplift, seismic considerations, and structural coordination in pedestal-supported rooftop deck systems.
  • Identify ways rooftop decks can contribute to outdoor thermal comfort and heat island mitigation strategies recognized in the WELL v2 and LEED v5 rating systems.
  • Determine how rooftop amenity spaces can support accessible outdoor environments and social interaction goals recognized in SITES v2 and LEED v5.
