The Architect’s Guide to Manufactured Stone Veneer

Manufactured stone veneer (MSV) offers design flexibility, durability, simple installation, and aesthetic variety, making it a compelling alternative to natural stone cladding. This course provides a comprehensive overview of how to specify and detail MSV, including relevant technical standards, building code requirements, and recommended installation methods for interior and exterior applications.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe key characteristics of high-quality manufactured stone veneer (MSV) and how the manufacturing process impacts durability, aesthetics, and product quality.
  • Discuss the advantages of MSV over natural stone veneer in performance categories such as installation methods, installation time, structural loads, and environmental impact.
  • Identify installation components and methods required for adhered MSV installations to comply with ASTM standards and the International Building Code® or International Residential Code®.
  • Follow best practices in detailing MSV installations for effective moisture management strategies throughout the installation process to prevent mold, mildew, and material corrosion.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered online, at your own pace.
