Current Sustainable Community Development Approaches: Part 1

Sustainable community development (SCD) has evolved to address the significant environmental and climatic changes over the last four decades. It now prioritizes resiliency and adaptability, balances technological and natural solutions, and integrates building design and performance into planning mandates. This first part of the SCD course series highlights the key changes, the nature of resiliency and adaptive planning, and the ongoing and emerging influences that shape and inform SCD today.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Recall the key principles of sustainable community development when planning communities.
  • Implement resilient strategies in order to restore community well-being after natural disasters.
  • Develop adaptable community planning and building construction approaches to ensure long-term community sustainability.
  • Identify any of many emerging influences that might affect a community and how to deal with them.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered online, at your own pace.
