Drinking Water Filtration: A Changing Landscape
Many communities face challenges related to the presence of harmful pollutants in their drinking water supply. This course examines the issues associated with these contaminants, focusing on lead, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and microplastics. It also discusses the government’s response to providing clean, safe water and innovations in point-of-use filtration systems designed to reduce toxic substances in drinking water and minimize the environmental impact of disposable plastic water bottles.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
Define the health and environmental impacts of lead, PFAS, and microplastics in municipal drinking water, along with the evolving regulatory landscape addressing the problems of contaminated water.
Summarize the importance of filtration in ensuring clean drinking water for a range of applications, including residential, commercial, education, and manufacturing facilities.
Discuss the various filtration systems in the market certified to reduce particulates and promote sustainability goals.
State the standards and specification considerations relevant to filtered water products.
