The tour will showcase various types of architecturally specified gypsum boards, Various types of architecturally specified gypsum board will be reviewed, including application suggestions within a building.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Explore the history of gypsum and discover the role of gypsum board products in the design and construction industry.
  • Understand the physical and fire resistive properties of gypsum and how fire-rated assemblies with gypsum board products contribute to the health and safety of building occupants.
  • Tour a gypsum board manufacturing plant to understand production process from processing raw materials to shipment of gypsum board products. Includes review of safety procedures and sustainable manufacturing processes.
  • Review best practices for specifying and selecting high-performance gypsum board products, such as acoustically enhanced, mold- and moisture-resistant, abuse-resistant, and impact-resistant gypsum board, for interior and exterior applications.
