Designing High-Performance, Amenity Green Roofs

Designing High-Performance, Amenity Green Roofs

This course the addresses the role green roof systems play in stormwater management, occupant well-being, and a building owner’s return on their investment. Participants will evaluate green roof components and system types to better understand how design decisions and amenity spaces impact structural integrity, drainage effectiveness, and waterproofing performance.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Define the social and economic benefits of Biophilic design and how it can be incorporated into amenity spaces on a building’s roof.
  • Evaluate the components of green roof systems, including available options for each component type, and compare their associated benefits and limitations.
  • Analyze strategies for integrating green roof amenities with adjacent hardscapes to maximize water detention and retention performance.
  • Differentiate among major green roof system types and assess their advantages and disadvantages based on site conditions and project goals.
  • Explain the importance of structural, drainage, and waterproofing considerations in the design and performance of green roof systems.
