This course provides an overview of life safety dampers: fire, smoke, and combination fire and smoke dampers with a focus on different styles and types. It focuses on their uses and benefits and has a discussion on proper installation practices and guidelines.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Define the difference between the three types of dampers; fire, smoke, and combination fire/smoke dampers and how they each function to resist the passage of fire, smoke, and some toxic gases.
• Examine the installation practices and guidelines for each of the three types of life safety dampers.
• Explain the use of life safety dampers as part of an effective passive fire protection plan.
• Examine the many types and styles of fire dampers available and how their function differs from one another.
