Metals are ubiquitous in today’s hardscape and are used in a variety of applications. This course reviews the important considerations related to the proper material, finish, and manufacturing technique to meet the function, aesthetic, and budget of metal designs for hardscape applications.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Contrast the sand casting vs. the fabrication process of metal products in terms of manufacturing, cost, aesthetics, and applications.
  • Discuss the characteristics and application considerations of the common finishes used for decorative metal products in vertical plane and ground plane installations.
  • State the considerations related to the use of dissimilar metals in custom metal designs and how to mitigate the possibility of galvanic corrosion.
  • List the various hardscape applications of decorative metal and the considerations in the custom cast metal design process to maximize the aesthetics and function of the installation.

Approximately 1 hour, 30 minutes. Delivered online, at your own pace.
