Metal Panel Manufacturing Facility Tour
Tour a single-skin metal panel manufacturing facility to discover the ins and out of metal panel production. From attaining quality raw materials, assurance of a precise finish coat and measuring quality control specifications prior to being loaded for roll forming, metal breaking or bent into a modular metal panel by a completely autonomous line. See first-hand through the process cycle how quality panels lend to create a building envelope able to withstand the effects of long-term exposure to the elements. All this while striving to be part of the safest metal handling companies in the world.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
Understanding LEED credits for aluminum and steel exterior panel design. Aluminum and steel can be formed, cut, bend, welded and scrapped numerous times before finding a permanent home in construction. Even after the building is aged, those materials can be shredded and used again.
The rainscreen is the first and primary defense against the elements. Acknowledge the process of roll forming steel and aluminum to the precise dimension and profile through a continuous die process. Pending the width of the intended profile, the materials must be precisely the correct width to be fed through the forming procedure. An improper building defense leads to environmental infiltration, excessive heat, excessive cold, mold and mildew. These infiltrations then require undue use of energy to cool, heat and filter the air.
Understand the strategies of rainscreen design using steel and aluminum materials. These materials allow for modular, prismatic, and various design elements that not only enhance the appearance of a building but add to the proficiency of water movement away from the building.
Recognizing integrated products designed to work with the selected cladding materials will create a higher performing building envelope against critical air, water, vapor and thermal barriers. These integrated systems support better air quality throughout the structure, reducing energy costs for air filtration. Integrated products also allow for quicker installation times with less material waste such as chemicals, adhesives, shims, and other construction measures that are often necessary to construct with unlike joinery. These unlike materials reduce the waste going to the landfills.
