8 Levels of Bullet Resistant Material Explained

The most important assets in any organization are the people within. When a client decides to invest in physical security, like bullet-resistant barriers, it is the responsibility of AEC community professionals to understand what protection level is appropriate for the building depending upon the surroundings, the industry, and the client’s specific needs and provide a blueprint that includes the desired features while maximizing the building owner’s investment and protecting future occupants.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Recall the differences between the terms “ballistic”, “bulletproof”, and “bullet-resistant” and how these terms are used within the ballistic barrier industry.
  • Summarize the multiple bullet-resistant standards bodies, how they compare to each other, and their significance across various industries.
  • Describe UL Levels 1 through 8 and the typical weapons, ammunition, and number of shots each level is rated for.
  • Discuss practical applications for UL Levels 1 through 8 and give examples of the suitable level of protection for projects across a variety of industries.
