High Performance Masonry Systems

Masonry products have greatly evolved since being introduced in the US over 150 years ago. Today, there are complete systems which target the critical needs of reducing energy costs in buildings, and consolidating multiple trades, which increases the installation efficiency. This presentation will explain why masonry products have shifted in design, and how each of the different systems address the important requirements of the architects’ projects.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Understand how energy codes have changed over the past 12 years, and how commercial building designs have needed to pivot to address the energy code compliance requirements.
• Understand how the new masonry systems provide a higher degree of energy performance which in turn creates a healthier, more comfortable setting in a safe and resilient building.
• Understand how the new high performance masonry systems increase building efficiency and construction speed by consolidating multiple trades, resulting in faster project completion.
• Understand how heating and cooling costs to the building owner can be reduced by the highly efficient designs in reducing heating and cooling costs.
