This course provides a review of the problems, safety issues, and solutions associated with snow and ice moving on roofs, particularly in heavy snow accumulation areas. It also provides in-depth training on the proper engineering and installation of snow retention systems.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Realize that codes and standards relating to snow retention systems are nonexistent.
• Recognize common hazards and damages caused when heavy snow moves on a roof.
• Compare and contrast everyday snow retention solutions and design practices.
• Identify and understand modern snow retention systems that can effectively and safely retain snow.
• List factors that need to be considered while engineering snow retention devices and layouts.
• Explain practices that can be used to eliminate ice dams.
