Gas Fireplaces in Design
Direct vent fireplaces are safe and efficient supplemental heat sources in today’s homes. This course reviews the innovative design options for gas fireplaces, including media options, cool wall technology, and safety barriers. Direct and power vent heat delivery systems are discussed, and the impact of standing versus electric pilot lights on energy efficiency is examined.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
Describe the energy, safety, and air quality benefits of direct vent and power vent gas fireplaces
Explain how heat is delivered safely and efficiently in a direct vent system and recognize how power venting can be beneficial in some projects
Discuss cool wall technology and other innovative options that enhance the design freedom, aesthetics, and functionality of a frameless direct vent gas fireplace.
Describe alternatives to standing pilot lights and their impact on energy efficiency.
