Finishing Wood: 5 Key Elements to Success

We all love wood. It gives any design a luxurious feel and the benefits of biophilic design can’t be denied. You can paint wood but then it is no different than plastic or stone. To truly embrace the beauty of wood grain you want a lower opacity coating or stain. Transparency makes everything more complicated and applying finish to a wood can make or break your design. This course explores the 5 key elements that will dictate your finished wood look and how to specify them to achieve your vision.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Understand the organic nature of wood and how it will vary from one board to the next even when finish is applied due to the porous nature.
  • Understand how texture, both natural and applied, can influence the final look and sheen of a finished wood product.
  • Learn how opacity of finish and the underlying species will change the look of the wood and its UV resistance.
  • Understand how different sawn wood grains will take finish differently and effect the absorption and pigment loading of a finish.

Approximately 1 hour. Delivered via webinar or face-to-face presentation. Available sessions shown below.
