Single-Ply Roofing Attachment Methods

This program compares the choices for single ply roofing attachment based on the materials, energy considerations, goals of installation, and weather considerations. It reviews legacy attachment methods and discusses newer potentially more cost effective and less weather sensitive options.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Identify the primary single-ply roofing attachment methods used in North America, including ballasted, mechanically attached, adhered, induction-welded, and specialty systems.
  • Compare the advantages, limitations, and appropriate applications of each attachment method with respect to climate, building type, and code requirements.
  • Evaluate How attachment choices affect wind performance, energy efficiency, durability, and long-term roof integrity.
  • Apply health, safety, and welfare (HSW) considerations when selecting roofing attachment systems for commercial and institutional projects.
