Masonry Design Overview (Construction Document Requirements)

This course will cover the design of a new single wythe concrete masonry unit (CMU) building in accordance with the 2021 IBC and 2016 TMS 402/602. The building comprised a high roof warehouse area and mezzanine/storage areas. This presentation will discuss modeling and detailing in Revit, structural design using CMHA EleMasonry software, design to accommodate movement control, detailing of flashing, and editing masonry specifications.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Learn how to design and develop construction documents for a single wythe masonry warehouse in compliance with the IBC and TMS 402/602.
  • Learn how to use structural software for the design of exterior masonry loadbearing and non-loadbearing walls.
  • Learn how to lay out movement joints in compliance with CMHA crack control strategies.
  • Learn how to detail a single wythe project in regard to flashing/weeps and moisture management.
