Exterior Sun Control

Exterior Sun Control

In this course regarding Division 10 exterior sun protection, we will provide details about different types of exterior sun control devices. We will review materials and methods of steel and aluminum in terms of capabilities and properties. We will also focus finishing options of galvanizing, painting, powder coating, kynar and anodizing and how each is applicable for steel and/or aluminum. We will review design resources and methods as well as construction documentation like submittals and specifications.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Attendees will be able to analyze various sun control solutions, including canopies, sunshades, awnings, walkway covers, and other custom solutions, and differentiate between their designs based on factors such as sun coverage, cost, and drainage.
  • Attendees will be able to compare the capabilities and qualities of steel vs. aluminum by analyzing material and method options. Additionally, they will be able to evaluate the different finishing options for both materials and explain the processes and HSW benefits, such as longevity and cost, associated with each.
  • Attendees will be able to explain various design considerations, including attachment methods and applications, to improve health, safety, and welfare.
  • By reviewing construction documents, specifically submittals and specifications, participants will be able to identify and interpret key elements that impact design intent and HSW measures.
