Gypsum Board: Success in the Field

Gypsum Board: Success in the Field

Of the total gypsum board installed in a building, typically 60-75% of the material is visible in the building’s completed state as wall and ceiling surfaces. When installed and finished correctly, the gypsum board is not noticed because of other products, like paint or wallcoverings, that cover it. The presentation outlines industry-approved guidelines and practices to achieve code-compliant gypsum board assemblies. Technical information will be presented to provide clear, practical guidance for commonly asked questions from the AEC community related to specification requirements, jobsite conditions, and installation procedures needed to construct successful gypsum board assemblies. Industry-approved documents addressing proper jobsite conditions and installation best practices will be reviewed.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Review frequently asked application questions from architects related to gypsum board products.
  • Understand how to evaluate fire-rated gypsum board installations using industry approved documents and tools that define acceptable installation methods, and review industry approved solutions to remediate faulty installations.
  • Highlight application guidelines from industry associations and standards organizations including ASTM, the Gypsum Association, and the Drywall Finishing Council.
  • Outline code-compliant fire-rated gypsum board assemblies to prevent non-compliant installations resulting from adverse jobsite conditions or misinterpretation of design documents.
