Professor George Elvin presented his latest findings on Nanotechnology and its applications in construction at ARC-US, a business meetings forum for Americas leading Architects and Vendors.

The presentation described how Nanotechnology provides the ability to manipulate matter at the scale of less than one billionth of a metre, has the potential to transform our built environment in ways almost unimaginable today and which already appears in flexible solar panels, ultra-high-strength steel, and other leading-edge applications, promising to take building performance to dramatic new levels of strength, intelligence and sustainability.

The Seminar programme also included speakers, such as Paolo Soleri, Architect, Philosopher and President of Arcosanti presenting  Solare; Lean Linear City, alongside State of the art topics such as Nanotechnology Applications in Construction as presented by Professor George Elvin, The University of Illinois and topical subjects such as Climate Change, Politics and a will to change, presented Steve Andrews, Principal, Gensler

Over a three day period ARC-US, held recently at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, brought together 80 Architects and 40 Vendors in a series of business meetings & industry presentations.

The event was described as: “Exceedingly well planned & executed, a unique format leading to extensive new knowledge” Gregory Hunt, Vice Chairman, Leo A. Daly.

“Well organised & Orchestrated, a relationship building experience as well as educational” Bill Dubois, Chairman of Worldwide Specifications, Gensler.

“An amazing way to meet & communicate with Vendors” Cindy O’Hara, Managing Director, OBM International.

RK Stewart, Principal of Gensler and President Elect AIA, had set the scene on the opening evening at the welcome supper through his Key Note address, welcoming the ARC-US initiative and commenting on the “innovative and unique format of the event”.

This inaugural event achieved success through a known formula (utilised by BOND Events around the world) guaranteeing face to face meetings between Vendors and the country’s leading Architects, based upon their own ‘wish list’ criteria.

Architectural practices were drawn to ARC-US through the combination of a seminar programme tailored to their interests and a unique opportunity to meet with senior executives from Vendor companies based upon their criteria for products and services of specific need and interest to them.

This year ARC-US received major sponsorship from the Schindler Elevator Corporation and on the closing evening at the Gala Dinner an ecstatic Ken Segel, VP Marketing for Schindler USA commented

“We are extremely pleased with our investment in ARC-US, the key was the quality and variety of Architectural practices Bond Events were able to bring through.

ARC-US 2006 will takes place 9th – 12th November e in San Diego. For full information and comment please contact:
